Paint- Composition

I love this paint color, even though it bucks the trend. Right now, colors are so muted. They are like softer, watered down versions of themselves. But not this color. It's very bold. In some ways, I suppose it is more muted than it could be, but it still stands out compared to the rest.

Paint- A la Carte

This is the color of a very light colored chalkboard. It's also got that muted quality that is so trendy right now. Instead of making a green that really stands out, they've gone for a very subdued color.

Paint- Gazpacho

This is another of those colors that is a pretty bold color, but a very muted shade of it. I think this is super chic color, but it's going to be difficult to pull off on anything but trim, or an accent wall at most. The pinkness of the shade makes it hard to use on a widespread basis.

Paint- Minamalist Cream

I love this color. I think it's a very good neutral color, but it's going to pick up tones from the furniture around it. Put a red couch next to it, and it's going to take on pink tones. Put it with a oak wood, and it will be rather brown. I love it for that reason, but more so because it's got a very muted look. That's the hot thing right now, even if you pick a color that is pretty bold. Pick a muted version of a bold color, such as the Paris Metro Station color in the last post, and you will have a very cool room.

Paint- Paris Metro Station

My home is currently an orange color. I have red couches and lots of black furniture. It's got a sort of Bombay theme. But when I move, I'm going to be updating a little. With the same furniture, I'm going to transform it into a travel theme with nothing but paint color. The color I'm using is called "Paris Metro Station". It's a deep purple like an eggplant, almost black, but very flat. I think it's a really cool color, and I've been looking for something like this for years.

It is a very intense color, so we're starting with an accent wall, and then deciding if it needs more or not. That way, we limit the damage if it doesn't turn out the way we expect.

Paint- An Intro

I'll begin moving sometime this week, and we will be painting before we move in. So I wanted to discuss paint this week. I picked a lovely purple color, and I think it's going to be a very chic look (more on that in the next entry).

I tend to use Dutch Boy paints. I like their little stickers that have the paint color on it. That way, you can pull the color off and see it on the actual wall. They used to be much bigger, which was more helpful, so in order to get an idea, I've resorted to taking several. lol Another reason I like the Dutch Boy colors is because they have the trendiest colors. My philosophy is that you should learn to paint, and do so about once a year. *Maybe* once every other year. It doesn't matter if it's only an accent wall, just paint!! It's a really dramatic way to change the look of a room, and it costs practically nothing. That's the only reason I'm experimenting with purple! lol

Paint- Bronze

Bronze is a HOT color right now. Although the vast majority of colors that are popular are best in a flat finish, this is one that should be metallic. Get a tiny amount of some very fine sparkle in there, and it will really work. Warning: a neighbor of my mother-in-law took this idea a little too extreme. There are literally handfuls and clumps of glitter in the paint, and it looks about as bad as it sounds. Better to leave the metallic mixing to the paint experts.

Paint- Silver

Silver is starting to fall out of favor, and people are looking at colors with more depth. But as a big fan of silver, I think that if that's your style, you should go with it. Don't do something just because somebody decided it was trendy! Although, if you would like to go for a trendy silver color, go for one that is pretty dark. Something like a gunmetal grey in a matte finish would be perfect. Try Sherwin Williams "Cast Iron".

Paint- Peach

Peach is starting to become a hot color, but I personally would not do it. It's often going to look odd in the sun, and the color usually isn't one that you'd be happy with. If you have to do peach, I'd recommend waiting a season or two, and then going with something like Sherwin Williams "Torchlight". Peach is getting hot. It's not there yet.

Paint- Yellow

If you're going to have yellow walls (and I would recommend against it), you should probably go with a gold color. That's the hot shade for yellow right now. Sherwin Williams makes one called "Goldfinch".

Another option is the greenish-yellow. Try something like Sherwin Williams "Citronella" for a good example.

Paint- Red

Reds are becoming hot. I think many people avoided them for years because they thought it would look like Stanley Kubrick had decided to film a sequel to The Shining in their house. But now people are finally starting to use it as a color for an accent wall. My advice is to go with a very pinkish red, such as Radish by Sherwin Williams. It's a very deep pink. If this doesn't appeal to you, go with a merlot color.

Paint- Purple

Purple is making a comeback. It was really popular in the mid 90's when practically everything was draped in floral prints from Waverly Fabrics. But while the purple is the same, the decor shouldn't be. Keep this purple free of floral influences. The purple now is best paired with more permanent objects such as glass and hardwoods, rather than softer, more transient beauty, such as florals and carpets. Try Sherwin Williams "Brave Purple".

Paint- Green

Green is a nice color to use this fall. But make sure you don't go too green. Strive to find a color that has a really mossy color to it. It should be a very dark, somewhat subdued color. This can work on most walls, but keep your woodwork light or white. Try Sherwin Williams "Verdant" for a good shade.

Paint- Pink

Pink has been hot this year. But not a light pink. Try something that is much darker, has a deep blue base, and is really close to purple. Sherwin Williams makes a good color with their "Juneberry". This would look so beautiful in a kitchen.

Paint- Caribbean Blue

Caribbean colors are really hot this season. And the hottest of them is a light blue. You want to find a color that seems to resemble Caribbean waters, except some that look icy cold. Try Sherwin Williams "Tantalizing Teal" for a good example.

Although this isn't the optimal color for your walls, I think it would be really fantastic to do an accent wall in this color.
