Rugs- Ameoba Rug

This amoeba rug probably doesn't actually resemble any sort of amoeba, but that's what it reminds me of. lol

Again, when you get into such funky patterns, you are going to have fewer and fewer homes that it works in. I think that's actually a good thing. Why do you want to be exactly like your neighbors? Get your own style, and express it.

Rugs- Traditional Asian Rug

This red asian rug has such a strong Asian influence, there are about 3 homes, and a handful of really upscale Chinese restaurants that can pull this off.

I don't hate it. Don't think that for a minute. It's beautiful and classic. And yet, this is such a terribly formal looking pattern that I can't see it in hardly any settings.

Rugs- White Flokati

This flokati rug has that fantastic, youthful look that comes with flokati rugs. That is to say, if you aren't decorating a teenage girl's room, be very judicious where you use these.

I am a fan of shag carpets. Several years back, I fell in love with a 3" deep carpet. But it was different than this. I tell you this because I don't want you to think that I'm just against the thick carpets. I'm not. But ones that look like fluffy white pillows only belong in a teenage girl's room.

Rugs- Traditional Blue Round Rug

This traditional round rug does not make any sense. Let me explain what I mean.

My mom has a small round table in her kitchen. It's where most of the meals are eaten. She has a larger rectangular table in the dining room. The dining room is more formal than the breakfast nook. She has been looking for a rug for the breakfast nook for a long time. But would this be right to put there?? No. This is an informal place to eat, and such a small table that it really can't be used for anything formal, even if she wanted to. The size of the rug is only 5', so it's not going to work for a really large formal round table. Now, are you REALLY going to put this rug, with all it's traditional grandeur, under a breakfast nook?? If you do, it would look odd.

Rugs- Blue Squares Rug

This blue squares rug is cute, in a very modern way. What I'd love to see is an antique looking quilt, the kind that has wrinkles in the stitching, hanging above this. And in the quilt, I'd love to see the exact same patterns and colors, but not in this order. For example, make the light blue the background, use the deep chocolate color for the cream colored borders, use the cream color where the light blue is, etc. It would tie in together, but not exactly enough that it looks strange to mimic the same pattern on the floor and the wall.

Rugs- Palm Tree Rug

This round palm tree rug is not exactly my style, but I can make a case for one area where it might be cute. Say you've got a sunroom, or an indoor patio. Put this under a table, and it would look marvelous.

Rugs- Red Color Block Rug

This red color block rug is a favorite of mine because it would work well in my own home. I've got a sort of Bombay themed room, where the walls are painted the color of marigolds, and the couches are red. I think this would look amazing in my living room, because it has lots of red and orange shades, but nothing like what is currently there. It adds interest to the room.

I'm keeping my eye on this one for a sale.

Rugs- Multi-color Rug

I hate this multi-color rug. The colors are very muddy in it, and I can't imagine it going with any kind of decor (it's too bland for southwest, which might be the only style it could work with). So imagine my surprise when they advertise it as matching ANY decor.

They also advertise this rug as being fade resistant, and for once, I wish it would fade.

Rugs- Barcode Rug

I can imagine this only in the funkiest apartments. If there are statues of dead Communist leaders, or copies of Warhol paintings on your walls, you might qualify. lol It's a truly funky rug, and I think it would look amazing in just the right place.

Rugs- Greek Key

This is called a greek key pattern when lines connect to each other to form a maze in this pattern. The Greek key look faded for a few years, but I think it's going to start making a comeback.

I don't think this rug is a good choice for that comeback. The green and cream colors aren't my favorite for this look. I would prefer they went for the black and cream instead.

Rugs- Black and Tan

This black and tan rug is quite simple. But there's also a lot of beauty in it. The black of the border isn't quite black. Instead, it's got a deep wine color. And the tan isn't really tan, but a deep camel shade. Both of these give it a lot of depth. There is a slight problem with the colors however. Because the colors aren't exactly black and tan, they will be difficult to match. My best advice is that you shouldn't try. This is plain enough that it can fit with many different colors.

Rugs- Black Rug

This black rug is extremely simple, but sometimes you need something rather plain for an area. While I don't really care for the crosshatch sort of pattern that is set into this, I imagine that it helps it hide stains and tracks very well.

Rugs- Chocolate and Honey Scroll Rug

This chocolate and honey scroll rug is not the type that would stand out, even as you walked across it. And I think that's fine. Not every home should have a work of art or another distraction point on the floor. For example, if you've got a lot on the walls, or lots of knick-knacks here and there, it's probably best to keep the floor rather subdued.

Rugs- Green Bamboo Rug

This green bamboo rug claims to be for indoor or outdoor use, but I don't think most Americans are ready to bring this sort of rug indoors just yet. They can see the use outdoors, but most think that rugs imply a certain softness. While I'm willing to stretch my mind enough to say that I can understand why someone would put it indoors, I'm not quite ready to do so myself.

Rugs- Scroll Rug

This scroll rug is not only very pretty, but you can use it indoors or outdoors.

One thing I think you should note with this rug, is that it cannot fit into every decor type. The same is true of just about any piece, but often, people think they have a nice rug, and the style doesn't matter as much. But look, this is part of your decor too. Don't try to force it.
